On the original deck, a height differential between two concrete pours on either side of the drain had emerged. This condition is common in pool decks over a decade old, as the surrounding concrete gradually settles. To attempt to resurface with rigid systems like pavers, this height variation at the drain is a serious problem. Rubberized poured-in-place (PIP) surfacing solves it cleanly: the material builds up to bridge height differences and, due to its inherent porosity, installs directly over drains without compromising drainage. What would be a costly complication with other surfaces becomes a non-issue. For a property of this caliber, Resilion TPV was the natural choice: a premium rubber product that delivers lasting performance and a refined finish. But material quality is only half the equation. Execution is the other. The client selected our wrapped coping treatment in a matching deck color, which is what we consider the most technically demanding finish in the rubberized surfacing industry. The complexity lies in the timing: the slow, precise work of wrapping the coping must be executed simultaneously with the much faster-setting horizontal field. Two very different rhythms, one unforgiving material. On a large deck in Punta Gorda’s heat and humidity, where set time compresses further, this becomes a true test of both craftsmanship and time management. The standard is uncompromising: no visible cold joints, no sacrifice in trowel quality across the field. It’s why this finish is rarely attempted.
