Beyond the Resilion rubberized overlay itself, the project included filling landscape beds, retiling the pool, refinishing the pool interior, installing a sundeck, removing a spa step, adding custom cage lighting, and pouring a significant new concrete area. When a project involves both existing and new concrete, lesser surfaces struggle. New concrete behaves differently than aged concrete, with different expansion rates and pH levels, often resulting in cracks or inconsistent overlay performance at the seam. Resilion eliminates that concern entirely. Its flexibility allows it to stretch with any movement or cracking in the substrate below, and its inherent porosity prevents water from becoming trapped between the material and the concrete, which is the primary driver of long-term adhesion failure. The original spray crete surface required no demolition; Resilion installed seamlessly over both the existing and new concrete in a single, continuous application. On a multi-contractor renovation of this scale, rubberized surfacing is almost always the final installation as it is such a forgiving and clean process that can meet up to the demands of virtually any other adjacent surface. The pool edge received a full wrapped coping treatment with a wide inlaid border color. For pools with distinctive shapes, a border is an elegant way to frame and celebrate the architecture rather than minimize it. The client’s custom color selection — a blend of layered grey tones with a subtle warm brown — is particularly well-suited to this space. The grey tones in the Resilion palette carry a natural blue undertone that coordinates beautifully with a wide range of pool tile blues, tying the water, tile, and deck into a cohesive, finished look.
